Who this is for
Built for the cars you actually care about
Enclosed transport is not the right call for every shipment. For these vehicles, it is the only call.
Not sure if your car needs enclosed?
If your car is a daily driver under $40k and you would not be devastated by a paint chip from highway debris, open transport is usually the better value. We will tell you that on the call. We do not push enclosed when open is the right fit.
Why Enclosed
What enclosed actually protects against
Full weather protection
Solid-walled or hard-sided trailers seal your vehicle off from rain, snow, sun bleaching, and salt — the things that turn a paint correction into a repaint.
Zero road debris exposure
No rocks, sand, or tar from the highway. Open carriers expose the front clip and underside; enclosed eliminates the risk entirely.
Higher security and discretion
Limited-access trailers with hidden interiors. The vehicle is not visible at truck stops or in transit — important for high-profile cars and collectors.
Optional climate control
Premium enclosed carriers can offer climate-controlled interiors for vehicles that suffer in extreme cold, heat, or humidity (battery, fluids, paint, leather).
Drivers who specialize in this
Hydraulic lift gates, soft tie-down straps, condition reports with photos. The drivers handling enclosed loads are not the same drivers handling 9-car open carriers.
Open vs. enclosed — pick the right one
Both options ship your car safely. They are built for different jobs.
Standard
Open Transport
9–10 cars per trailer. The most common, most affordable, and the right choice for nearly every standard vehicle.
- Lower price (the baseline)
- More carriers available — faster pickup
- Same insurance coverage as enclosed
- ×Exposed to weather and road debris
- ×Not ideal for low-clearance or freshly painted cars
Best for
Daily drivers, lease returns, dealer transfers
Premium
Enclosed Transport
Sealed trailer, 2–6 cars, hydraulic lift gate, soft straps. Built for cars where the price of one rock chip is more than the price difference.
- Full protection — weather, debris, dust, exposure
- Hydraulic lift gate — safe for low-clearance vehicles
- Higher cargo insurance limits
- Specialized drivers, soft straps, condition reports
- +Roughly +40–60% over open on the same route
Best for
Luxury, exotic, classic, collector, restored
Pricing
Why enclosed costs more — and why it makes sense
Enclosed transport runs roughly +40–60% over open transport on the same route. That premium is not arbitrary. Here is exactly where it goes:
- Lower trailer capacity. An open carrier hauls 9–10 vehicles per trip. An enclosed trailer hauls 2–6. The same fuel and the same driver hours get spread across fewer cars.
- Specialized equipment.Hydraulic lift gates, soft tie-downs, and the trailer itself cost more than a standard open carrier. The carriers running this equipment are also less common, so the supply is smaller.
- Higher insurance limits.Enclosed carriers carry significantly more cargo insurance because they are hauling significantly more valuable cars. That premium is built into the rate.
- Driver experience.Enclosed loads are not handled by entry-level drivers. The people who load a Ferrari with soft straps have done it hundreds of times.
Translation: on a $1,500 cross-country open shipment, expect roughly $2,100–$2,400 enclosed. On a $1,000 regional open shipment, roughly $1,400–$1,600 enclosed. Vehicle, route, and timing all move the number — that is what the quote is for.
